Celebrating science

Pupils from 44 schools in the Northern Provinces are attending the National Science Week celebrations hosted by the South African Nuclear Energy Corporation (Necsa) this week.
National Science Week is an initiative of the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and is being hosted across all nine provinces this year.
The aim of the week is to excite young people about science at an early age; to encourage them to develop an interest in studying mathematics and science subjects and most of all, to create awareness among those sectors of society that influence the subject and career choices of pupils.
The week was also held to motivate and attract more young people into Science Engineering and Technology (SET) careers and to promote a greater awareness and appreciation of the contribution of science and technology to the nation and in people's daily lives.
The programme as Necsa started on Monday and by Friday almost two thousand pupils would have attended the celebrations.
