Nuclear fuel
 
Necsa has established laboratories for the development of manufacturing and quality control methods for nuclear fuel for the Pebble Bed Modular Reactor (PBMR). The work is being carried out under contract for PBMR (Pty.) Ltd.

The following four laboratories have been established:

• Kernel production
• Coated particle production
• Fuel sphere production
• Quality control

Development work is progressing well with the objective of being in a position to manufacture a small number of Fuel Spheres that meet all specification requirements during 2004.
