Flourine chemistry
Pelchem
Pelchem, the chemical division of Necsa is proud to offer our customers a variety of chemical products, including inorganic and organic fluorochemicals for both local and international markets.
Pelchem was formally established in 1999 to commercialise the technologies and products based on HF (hydrogen fluoride) and F2 (fluorine).
The business is based on three main chemical building blocks, namely HF, F2 and C2F4 (tetrafluoroethylene). HF has been produced commercially at Necsa from locally mined fluorspar (CaF2) since 1984 and used as a feedstock to produce this variety of products.
Fluorine is produced on-site at several plants with Pelchem's own design large-scale fluorine cell technology and fluorine purification systems. Pelchem has been producing fluorine since 1986 for the manufacture of a range of products.
Proprietary technology has been developed to produce C2F4, a monomer for fluoropolymers such as PTFE. The C2F4 is used as an intermediate for various downstream products. Currently more than 75 % of Pelchem's products are exported.
Pelchem has a joint venture with Fluoropack, a company modifying the surface of Polymers by fluorination for the automotive and agrochemical industries.
