TARGET POPULATION
All employees who once worked with Radiation from industry; nuclear facilities; public institutions and people
who have passed grade 10 to grade 12 with Physics and Mathematics.

RADIATION PROTECTION OFFICER COURSE (RPO) (NQF 4)
TARGET POPULATION
All employees who have passed RPM (NQF 3) course and are working in industry; nuclear facilities and public
institutions.
OBJECTIVE
• Determining safety precautions based on radiation protection rules, procedures and standards for a specific
task or environment
• Assessing and interpreting radiological survey results and determine appropriate plan of action or procedures
under routine and ad hoc/non-routine task conditions
• Ensuring implementation of radiological safety compliance of a specific context/work unit
• Recording and reporting on radiological findings
• Evaluating activities during safety stand-by.

RADIATION PROTECTION OFFICER COURSE (RPO) (NQF 5)
TARGET POPULATION
All employees who have passed RPM (NQF 4) course and are working in industry; nuclear facilities and public
institutions. BSc in Physics and BSc honours degree graduates may also apply.
OBJECTIVE
• Assessing and communicating technical information accurately and according to organization-specific
requirements
• Implementing quality management programmes according to specified procedures.
• Designing surveillance programmes and reviewing procedures according to specified standards, policies and
guidelines.
• Implementing radiation detection and dosimetry programmes on specified standards
• Implementing operational Radiation Protection programmes and prescribing radiological requirements/limitations
on prescribed standards.
• Implementing environmental management programmes for radiation protection according to specified limits and
criteria. Range: programmes include environmental, waste management, and transportation programmes.
• Supervising and managing human resources according to legal requirements
