Mr Loyiso Tyabashe (Pr Eng) is the Group Chief Executive Officer of the South African Nuclear Energy Corporation (Necsa), appointed from 1 January, 2021.
He started his engineering career in the automotive industry from 1998-2000 where he worked as a Production and a Design Engineer. Thereafter he joined Eskom’s nuclear business in the period 2000-2020, working in various roles within the nuclear power business; viz. Engineering, Operations, Maintenance Planning and Execution, Outage Management, Internal Oversight, and Project Management. He was involved at a strategic level of the same organisation for ten (10) years.
Mr Tyabashe led and was on advisory structures of the South African government nuclear new build programmes initiatives.
In addition, he has acquired global nuclear experience with institutions such as Électricité de France (EDF), Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) through participation in various nuclear programmes.
Mr Tyabashe holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc.) in Mechanical Engineering and a Master of Science (MSc.) in Mechanical Engineering, both from the University of Cape Town (UCT), as well as Executive Leadership Programme (ELP) qualification from UCT’s Graduate School of Business (UCT GSB).
