Mr. Fortune Mkhabela is a graduate of the Wits University with a Bcom specialisation in Accounting, Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) with the Global Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), Certification in Control Self-Assessment (CCSA) with the Global Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), Honours Bcom Auditing with UNISA. He is currently completing his Executive Master of Business Administration (MBA) with the University of Reading (UK) after completing all the course work.
Mr. Fortune Mkhabela has extensive experience in Risk Management, Internal Audit, Accounting and Reporting, Supply Chain and Budget management. Mr. Mkhabela started his professional working career at Anglo American in the Global Shared Service (GSS) and has experience across University Sector, Government Departments, Public Entities, and Private Sector.
He was a member of the Finance Committee and Senate at Wits University in 2007/2008.
He was the Deputy President and Treasurer of Wits University Students Representative Council (SRC). He is also the former Regional Treasurer of SASCO in Johannesburg Region.
He was the Head of Waterberg District in municipal finance at Limpopo Provincial Treasury overseeing the work of Chief Financial Officers (CFOs), Chief Audit Executives (CAEs) and Chief Risk Officers (CROs).
He was the Senior Manager: External Risk Management for the Railway Safety Regulator (RSR).
He was the Senior Manager: Internal Audit for the Railway Safety Regulator (RSR).
He has served in various Risk Management Committees and Audit Committees between 2011 to 2015.
He has served as the Chairperson of the Risk Management Committee for Chief Albert Luthuli Municipality.
He is involved in many Non Profit Organisations designed for community development.
He serves as the Chairperson of the Risk Management Committee for Govan Mbeki Municipality.
He serves as a Member of Audit Committee for Madibeng local Municipality.
He serves as Member of the Audit Committee for Department of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation (Presidency of South Africa) from 2016.
He serves as the Chairperson of the Audit Committee for Central Gauteng Athletics from 2018.
While in China Mr. Fortune Mkhabela was chosen by students from University of Reading in different campuses to chair the University of Reading Visit to SkyNet (Shanghai) and also advised them as a consultant on their international strategy, and strategy for expansion internally in China.
Mr. Mkhabela was selected by Mail and Guardian in 2018 to be part of the Top 200 Young People in South Africa.
He currently serves as the Group Chief Risk Officer (CRO) of NECSA.
