Dr Philemon Podile Magampa is a Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE) shareholder representative at the Necsa Board. He is currently a Director: Nuclear and Radiation Security at the DMRE responsible for managing South Africa’s International obligations and national legislation pertaining to the governance of the Nuclear Industry regarding nuclear and radiation security. He is responsible for implementation of Conventions and Treaties requirements relating to nuclear security at national level. Prior to this role, He served as the Technical Support Manager in the Nuclear Safeguards Department at the Nuclear Energy Corporation of South Africa (Necsa) for over 5 years. In this role He was responsible for managing the Non-Destructive Assay (NDA) laboratory wherein nuclear materials in South Africa were characterized and verified using NDA methods for safeguards purposes. He also served as a Scientist in the Nuclear Obligations Management department at Necsa for approximately 2 years. He also served as a Postdoctoral Scientist in the Research and Development Division of Necsa for over 2 years in which he was responsible for carrying out research on the synthesis and fluorination of carbon nanomaterials using chemical vapor deposition technique including Characterization using SEM, TEM, Raman spectroscopy and thermal analysis.
