Mr Suren Maharaj

Mr Suren Maharaj is a highly accomplished, results-driven Chief Financial Officer (CFO) with 28 years of progressive experience in finance and operations management within start-ups and global multi-billion dollar multinational companies in the Sub-Sahara Africa markets in both the private and public sectors. He currently serves as a Managing Director of his own Financial Management Consulting company specializing in Public Sector Financial Management, Procurement Management, Risk Management and Auditing at both PFMA and MFMA organs of state. He is a seasoned Chartered Accountant who has streamlined business operations that increased efficiency resulting in profitable growth. 

In recognition of his accomplishments as a CFO in successfully financially turning-around struggling SOEs and achieving clean audits, he was a nominated finalist for the annual CFO of the year awards in 2016, effectively making him amongst the TOP 20 CFO’s in South Africa in 2016. He serves on various Boards and Councils at national, provincial and local government and State-Owned Entities, most notably having served as Chairperson of the Audit and Risk Committee for the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission which has achieved a clean audit for the past six consecutive financial years. 

Mr Maharaj has a Masters Degree in Business Administration (MBA) from Regenesys Business School, qualified as a Chartered Government Finance Officer (Chartered Institute of Government Finance) completed a course for Audit & Risk Officers, Municipal Executive Financial Management from Wits Business School. He is a Fellow Member of the Institute of Directors Southern Africa, Green Belt Digital Six Sigma Certified, Chartered Accountant CA (South African Institute of Chartered Accountants), Hons BCompt Degree (University of South Africa) and BCom Degree (University of KwaZulu Natal). He has worked for big corporations such as Deloitte, Motorola, South African Airways and many more.
