NECSA HOSTS TO NATIONAL SCIENCE WEEK
The South African Nuclear Energy Corporation (Necsa) will be hosting approximately 400 learners during the National Science Week (NSW) as follows:
Date: 4 to 8 August 2025. Venue: Necsa Visitor Centre Time: 9:00 – 14:00
The theme for Necsa is “Celebrating 60 years of nuclear excellence with the future generation.
Participating schools are from the surround communities from areas such as Atteridgeville, Brits, Winterveld and Laudium. The schools include Bokgoni Tech, Edward Phatudi, Hofmeyr SS, Phelindaba SS, DH Peta, Himalaya, Central Sec, Lighhouse, Christian Academy, Mothutlung, Thutopele, Fotchville, Moruleng, Itsoseng, Dipetogo, Holytrinity, Nick Mpshe, Lukhanyo, Fuion and Hebron Tech.
Necsa aims to be one of the most valuable national contributors towards alleviating the national shortage of skilled personnel in the science and engineering sectors. In addition, Necsa use the National Science Week to inform, educate and create awareness to the general public and learners about peaceful and medical uses of nuclear.
We have ‘edutainment” activities for learners as part of the programme that will be conducted throughout the week. NSW platform is aimed at providing a platform for scientists to engage with Maths and Science learners and encourage them to consider science, engineering and technology (SET) careers (including research) as well as a possible career within Necsa.
Necsa have partnered with other organisations such as NNR, NWRDI, Eskom, Unisa, among others to make the NSW program more meaningful.
