CALL FOR PROPOSALS
Micro-Focus X-ray Tomography:
Calls for proposals on the Micro-Focus X-ray Tomography (MIXRAD) instrument are announced via the RADTOM USER mailing list. If you want to have your name removed or added to the RADTOM USER mailing list, please return an email to RadTom@necsa.co.za.
The following general beam time schedule applies: (Variations due to unforeseen circumstances is possible):
Period/Year | Beam Time Period: | Call Open on: | Proposal Deadline: | Final Allocated Beam Time: |
1/YY | 1 Jan – 30 April | 1 Aug previous year | 30 Oct previous year | 30 Nov previous year |
2/YY | 1 May – 31 Aug | 1 Dec previous year | 28/29 Feb | 30 March |
3/YY | 1 Sep – 31 Dec | 1 April | 30 Jun | 31 July |
If a preliminary investigation is necessary for prove-of-principle, we propose that the instrument scientist is contacted in advance and prior to proposal submission for a 1 x test scan using the above email address. There is no cost associated with the “proof-of-principle” scanning. It is recommended that first-time users, or not knowledgeable if the scanning will be successful, use the “proof-of-principle” opportunity.
Note that beam-time is not guaranteed and that technical difficulties may result in cancellation or postponement of experiments at any time. Everything is done to limit down-time and to accommodate lost-time.
Other instruments – Continuous call
Contact the appropriate beam line scientist to discuss instrument availability and project feasibility.
