Dr Derik Wolvaart

Dr Derik Wolvaart is an accomplished Nuclear Engineer and Executive Leader with over 30 years of strategic, technical, and regulatory experience in the nuclear energy sector, both locally and internationally.

He has demonstrated expertise in nuclear engineering, plant life extension, probabilistic safety assessment, and nuclear project leadership. He has a proven track record in leading commercial and research-driven nuclear projects across South Africa, Europe, Asia, and the Americas.

Dr Wolvaart is committed to nuclear safety, governance excellence, and innovation in energy transitions. He holds a PhD in Applied Mathematics (Relativistic Cosmology), an MSc in Nuclear Engineering, an MSc in Paleontology, and a BSc in Nuclear Engineering (Highest Honours).

He is currently serving as Senior Executive: Nuclear at Lesedi Nuclear Services.
